World AIDS Day was observed across ACF locations.
The day's focus was mass awareness generation amongst the staff,
community members and targeted high risk populations.
Activities at all locations centred around spreading information,
creating awareness and thereby stemming the spread of the virus.
Red ribbon campaigns were organised at all locations, where in red
ribbons were pinned on all individuals participating. Large gatherings
of people were addressed on the issue of HIV/AIDS prevention by
master trainers, resource organization or key company personnel.
Through their speeches they urged people to behave responsibly,
seek treatment for STIs and prevent the spread of the virus. Rallies
with posters displays and slogan chanting were organised at many
locations. These saw the enthusiastic participation of school and
college students and on many occasions community members as well.
A mini marathon was organised in Chandrapur to disseminate information
on HIV/AIDS and as a mark of solidarity in the fight against the
virus. Informative exhibitions were put up at strategic places at
several locations. To test the general knowledge of people about
HIV/AIDS, quiz competitions were conducted. While on one hand these
were fun to participate in, on the other, they worked effectively
as a tool to gauge the general level of information of the people
and to disseminate authentic information about the virus to them.
Prizes were given away to the winners. Films are a powerful media
to get across messages on HIV/AIDS and at many location movies such
as Phir Milenge and Positive were screened. In addition to all this
puppet shows, exhibitions with informative material, information
kiosks, street plays, poster competitions were organised as means
of spreading awareness.
