We promote safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene to ensure the health and wellbeing of communities.
We promote the construction and use of toilets. Our aim is to achieve 100% toilet coverage and ODF status for the communities in which we work. We adopt the principles of Community Led Total Sanitation to ensure community ownership.
Wash is an underlying cause of malnutrition and ACF focuses on WASH in AWC and in schools with construction of toilets and hand washing facilities. Awareness on hand washing, personal hygiene, and sanitation facility in both institutions is focused. Equitable access to safe and pure drinking water is catered through RO plants in villages.
We sensitise communities around personal and environmental hygiene. Awareness at a school level helps to improve sanitation and behavior change.
In alignment with Swachh Bharat guidelines, ACF promotes four pillars of Menstrual Hygiene Management: access to awareness, access to absorbents, access to WASH and access to disposal. ACF creates awareness in schools and communities, installs napkin making units at SHG groups and ensures wash and disposal in schools.
On 29th April 2017, Mangi Budruk village was declared a Smart Village and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs by the Government of Maharashtra. Yet a little over a decade ago, barely 10 of its 234 households even had a toilet. With a population of less than a 1000, Mangi Bk was considered too small to have its own Gram Panchayat, having to group with neighbouring villages to form a group panchayat. The nearest medical facilities, railway station and post office were
15-25 kms away.
A special invitation for 'loans' went out to SHGs from the Women's Federation of Chandrapur in 2015. Usually provided for small businesses, weddings or for buying a house/vehicle, this was the first time loans were provided for toilets.
Meena Devarao Bobade (Vice Chairman), was excited to see applications flood in. But just 5 of the 22 from her village were for toilets. So Meena took up the challenge - today Pimplegaon has 100% toilet coverage - all of which are being used. In fact, 95 of ACF villages have achieved the same. And Meena? Well she is commonly refered to as 'Meena Tai' - she's a role model now!
